Crafting this IMAX website on Wix was like embarking on a thrilling adventure in the digital world. It was a challenge and a joy. Beginning with simply the collection of experiences IMAX had to offer to form a sub-brand with the idea of revamping the IMAX experience online, giving it a fresh spin while staying true to its cinematic roots.

First off, I renamed the new IMAX collection to "The IMAX Spectrum." It sounded sophisticated and represented the diverse range of experiences IMAX offers. To symbolise this, I came up with a logo—a film reel splashed with colours inspired by visible light, you know, like a rainbow. It was a nod to how I can only see a tiny bit of the electromagnetic spectrum, just like how this is only a fraction of what IMAX has to offer as they have much more planned in the future.

The planning phase on Figma started with sketching out the layout, and then figuring out how each page should flow and what colours to use. Originally, I wanted a vibrant rainbow colour palette, wanting to dedicate a colour to each experience, but reality hit, and I realised it might be too much for the minimalistic look I was intent on having in the first place. So, I toned it down for a more minimalistic vibe, making sure everything was easy to find and navigate. The revised colour palette consisted of the signature IMAX blue, a soft yellow tone for the accent with most of the page being a space grey. But when it came to building the website, my thoughts had changed compared to my wireframing.

Building the website on Wix was a whole new level of fun. With its drag-and-drop editor, I felt like a digital architect, piecing together each page with precision. Responsiveness was key, so I made sure it looked just as clear and straightforward on phones as it did on desktops. I decided that I still wanted to incorporate the fun visible light rainbow to link the Spectrum logo to my website so here and there, I added spots of colour whether that be in the videos or the images.

But the cherry on top was the Ident. Think of it as the website's signature move, a visual representation of IMAX's vibe. I think when I was designing the Spectrum logo itself I had already visualised a reel turning and wanted to incorporate that into my ident I borrowed elements from the iconic IMAX logo and added my flair, making it pop with animated graphics and transitions.

In the end, crafting the IMAX website was a wild ride of creativity and tech-savvy. Each step brought me closer to my goal of creating a digital space worthy of the IMAX name. And hey, who knows what's next? With the digital landscape always evolving, there are bound to be more features and tools to help improve the digital architecture of web design on the horizon.
